Baby Stuff

It's been a long time since I've written anything baby related. How funny. It's been the last thing on my mind with all of the house stuff. But I did come across our checklist in my documents the other day and we've managed to do out of 15 out of the original 20 things we decided had to be done before we have a kid!!! What's left?

1. Get healthy. We both could stand to lose some more weight and just be healthier in general. Trips to the dentist need to be scheduled and we should overhaul our eating habits. My goal is to get a Costco card this weekend so we can stock the fridge and start cooking at home more. The house is slowly coming together so we have a kitchen to cook in now. No excuses.

2. House. Our goal was to move in and make it livable. None of it was livable before. They're not perfectly decorated, but we've done that in 3.5 of our 7 rooms - the living room, our bedroom, the small bedroom (future nursery) and 1/2 of the dining room. Now we have to concentrate on the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room.

3. Travel. Um, yeah. Our London trip was ruined (damn Michael Jackson) so now we're looking for alternatives. Especially for countries in which the dollar can go a bit further. Central America and Southeast Asia are looking pretty good.

4. Finances & Emergency Savings. Um...we've had a lot of house related emergencies lately so the emergency fund is pretty low right now. We really need to rebuild. We also need some time to get used to paying a mortgage each month and see if we'll really have as much left over to save as we hope. So far with house stuff no two months are alike so we need more practice sticking to our new budget. Plus we need to buy a 2nd car, but that is looking like it may happen sooner than later.

5. School. I still have not chosen a grad program though I did hear about a great one yesterdayI want to check out, and Scott has taken a couple of semesters off for house stuff. Not moving so fast on this one either.

So while we have some serious homework to do, we did get more than 15 other things done! We managed to get some of our house infrastructure done, set up automatic payments for all of our bills, brought all credit card balances way way down, moved into the house, planned the housewarming (though we haven't actually had it yet), Scott has moved to the level he wants at work, we did all of our research on baby health insurance and insurace for me, researched childcare, made an initial shopping list, planned out the nursery layout and budget, I got my work schedule where I want it to be, we've bought some of the furniture we need, came up with a plan for baby stuff storage, done some green and eco friendly parenting research, I finally went to the doctor and took care of some of my lingering health issues, Scott is still (technically) in school, we have a very safe car, I've at least researched grad programs.

So we have some homework to do, but we're moving forward.
