Inspiration: Decorating with Branches

The Knot In our eco cottage style, I think branches would be the perfect accent for parts of the living room. We recently added two bookshelves to the room and so far, they have nothing on top. Seasonal decor for Halloween was up for a while, but now they host two lonely pumpkins and that's it. So I started looking for some tree/wooded/natural looking decor, can came across these inspirational photos. Finally!

The new washer and dryer are here! They were delivered on Friday afternoon and Francisco came this morning and connected everything. Do you think I can get my installation fee back? Here are some photos. We're planning to put up a screen a la Young House Love in front on the hot water heater so when I ran out of leftover living room paint right next to the darn thing I said screw it and called it a day! These are two small prints on metal that my friend Stephanie encouraged me to buy while we were exploring a little shop at Avila Beach. So glad I did. Thanks Steph! Because I was not in love with the dozens of crisscrossing wires that helped light the room, I've opted for a nice little eco friendly lamp. This one came from Southern California Edison's Lamp Exchange Program. The floors have taken a beating in this process so we'll repaint/polish the concrete again at a later time. I'm just glad to have my own laundry room!!!!

Eden Outdoors

Because our house is so small and LA weather is usually so nice, we spend a lot of time outside. I just realized that I've never photographed or blogged about any of our updated outdoor space so here's my first pass: Eden's Garden. When you first enter the yard Eden's area is hidden behind a large bougainvillea wall that sits at the end of the driveway. This used to be where the old wood-burning hot tub I hated lived and the outdoor shower area is just beyond so the previous owners erected this wall for privacy I guess. It works for us because you don't see a world of toys as soon as you walk into the yard. On the other side of the wall is the giant letter E I made for her first birthday party (gotta remember to post pics of that too) and a little hook we have for her outdoor hat. Once you round the wall you can see all of her playground toys and equipment. This area is covered in mulch to keep the weeds down and protect the soil in case we
