Laundry Room Progress

The laundry room. A place where dreams come true. Well, at least my dreams. Most tiny little houses like our don't have any extra space, let alone one that you can convert into a usable space like a laundry room/walk in pantry/craft space (if there's room). When you consider the fact that it looked like this (with seller's stuff) when we closed on the house in early 2009...

We had our work cut out for us. We first cleaned out the entire room. It took forever to take out all of the shelves and hooks and nails that were all over the walls. A complex network of cords and wires crisscrossed over the sloped ceiling. There were also several holes in the walls where animals could come and go as they pleased. Here are some photos after we removed most of the junk from the room.

We then repaired and cleaned up the clanky old hot water heater, and removed the sinks from the space. Then we called in the professionals and had our contractor insulate and drywall the whole space. He also re-piped the water lines in copper. We followed that up with a coat of paint leftover from the living room. Here's what it looked like after that with the pedestals in place awaiting the washer and dryer delivery.

Once that was complete, we had the washer and dryer delivered. We're currently waiting for them to be installed by our plumber tomorrow morning. I'll hang the art, finish the floors, strap down the hot water heater (building codes require that they be harnessed to the wall) wrap it in an insulating blanket to save energy, and take some more photos. I'm also hoping to copy Young House Love's idea of obscuring the heater with a screen. Check out their post here.

Stay tuned for more laundry room update photos!
