Smart Storage

I had a friend over for tea today (Hi Kathryn!) and she was nice enough to compliment me on how clutter free our house is. I realize that we have a weird way of purging things from the house pretty much constantly in an effort to save space (this house is tiny!) and keep things streamlined and organized. So I plan to start posting some of our storage solutions.First up is media storage.
Huge Media Storage at the Apt.
DVDs

Being married to a man who haunts libraries professionally means that books, cds, dvds, and vinyl records reign supreme in this family. Unfortunately (ha!) we just can't store all of that stuff. So when we moved from our spacious apt. to our little house, we donated 360 dvds to the library, and 100 old vhs tapes to Goodwill. It took some convincing and lots of time spent on the Netflix website running searches for his obscure titles but Scott finally agreed to let go of all of those movies. He now uses Netflix and our Roku player and loves it.

Our Old Apt. CD Storage on the Left
CDs

The invention of the MP3 player has truly saved us. Before this we actually had to store over 700 cds in the house at the insistence of the media maniac I somehow ended up married to. Now that he can keep all of his music in his pocket we were able to part with the actual disks and plastic containers. Well at least in the house. Until they are all backed up onto two external hard drives (one for home and one that stays in our Safe Deposit Box) and they are all boxed up in our storage room. See I told you he was crazy.

Our Much Simpler Storage Now

So with all of those cds, videos, and dvds gone, all of that storage has been condensed to a lovely little TV stand and I couldn't be happier.
