Next Project: A Bookshelf We Can Agree On

Scott and I have very different ideas about bookshelves. To him, bookshelves should look like this photo above from our apartment before we bought the house. Chock full of books with no space for anything else. I tend to appreciate bookshelves that look a bit more decorative like these in the photo below from Pottery Barn. Books, yes. Nothing but books, no. I like a bit of a decorative touch.

So this is the debate ranging on in our house right now as we discuss what the bookshelf we've decided to place at the foot of our bed should look like. We lost a lot of book space when we moved from our loft-like apartment to our tiny cottage, so we're looking for any little space to squeeze a book or two. Plus the shelf will be the perfect place to put our new small sized flat screen we're purchasing for the bedroom. This is what the space looks like now.

I'm hoping to find a compromise between stuffed bookshelves and decorative items.
